Internet Marketing Secrets
Sounds impressive—"Internet Marketing Secrets"—but in reality there are none. If somebody discovers a new internet marketing technique, other marketers will pretty quickly find out. The word will spread around, and then it will no longer be a secret.
Over the next few paragraphs, I’m going to share with you many things about internet marketing that some people would try to sell you in a fancy-looking e-book, then get your email address to try to sell you many more products. I am happy to share this information with you because you’ve gone to the effort of looking through the search engines and have found this page.
The first thing you obviously have to do when internet marketing is to decide on what product you want to market. You must make sure the domain name you’re going to use to promote the product you’re marketing is relevant to the product. For example, if you wanted to promote pigs that could fly, you would make your website Pigsthatcouldfly dot com. If you are not sure about what keywords to use, try Google's free keyword tool. Once you have found a relevant domain name for your product that is available, you should check the history of the domain name. The last thing you want to do is to purchase a domain name that has been used for illegal purposes in the past. Archive.org will give you all the history of all domains.
Once you’ve decided what product you would like to promote, you really need to find out whether or not that product is worth promoting. Are people searching the internet for that product? And if so, how much competition is there for the keywords for that product? The easiest way to find out is to enter the main keywords you will be using for your website. Then, go to Traffic Estimate, and enter the website that was number one in Google for those keywords. You will then be given a report on how many times that website was clicked on over the past 30 days. It’s not 100% correct, but it gives you a great guide to know if there is an interest out there in the product you would like to promote.
So now you have your website and the product or products you want to promote. If you are good at building websites, start building your site. If you’re not, don't worry—build a blog instead. Google seems to have taken a liking to blogs, and they can look as good as most websites out there. Remember to constantly update and add to your blog. A couple of great free tools out there are Onlywire and Ipings. Onlywire is time-consuming to set up, but it does wonders in getting your website indexed by Google. One blog I created was indexed by Google on the first page within 12 hours of submitting the blog using Onlywire. I admit there were only 50,000 pages for the keyword I was targeting, but it was much better than the weeks or even months that it takes some sites to get indexed.
If you want to learn about search engine optimization and getting your site high up in the search engines, Stompernet is the best place to learn by a long, long way. They are a level above everybody else. If you are serious about internet marketing or want to get serious, Stompernet will take you to the next level.
Now that you have your website up, the next important step is to get backlinks to your website. On the topic of backlinks, everybody has their own opinion. For some people, the only backlinks that count are from websites that are relevant to yours, and others say all backlinks are important, especially from sites with high page rankings. To be honest, I don't know. You would have to ask Google, and it’s a question I am sure they happily would not answer. I can see both sides of the argument. I personally don't think any link can be bad for your site, because anybody can put a link to your site on any web page. That is out of your control, and I don't believe Google could penalize anybody for that.
The last piece of advice I can give you for your website is to make sure it is up to date. Link Slueth is an awesome product that costs nothing and lets you know if you have any links on your site that are not working properly. For example, if you’re promoting for a merchant and they end the promotion of that product, your link will cease to work. Google hates dead links, and it will probably lower your rankings in the search engine. It is definitely worth your time to run your websites through Link Sleuth once a week to make sure you’re not sending any negative information back to Google about your website.
