GETTING REFERRALS

How do I get referrals?  This the most popular question I get asked from people who want to start making an income on the internet. There are many ways to get referrals - some cost you money (eg: google adwords) and others are free but take a lot of time in initial setup.

So let me start from the begining for people that are just learning.

An example of one of the sites I like to use is a paid to read advertisement site called Hits4pay. Once you have signed up you can begin referring people to the site and earn money every time someone links through and reads an advertisement.

How to find your referral link on Hits4pay.
1. Go to my affiliate resources and click on "advertising guidelines".
2. Go down to the bottom of the page click on "click here to get affiliate
resources".
3. A page will come up saying "your affiliate tracking link".

That link is your referral code. It will look something like this:

http://hits4pay.com/members/index.cgi?stranger01

Other popular sites that give you links are Pure Profile, Email Cash and Planet Pulse. Many other sites also have banners you can use. In these banners are your referral link. If you click on the banner below you will see that when you go to the website up in the browser section it shows my referral link stranger01.

Now where to get started!

The easiest way to start promoting a referral link is down the bottom of your email. For example at the end of an email could be:

If you don't want people to see your user name you can use www.tinyurl.com to cloak your referral link. Then down the bottom of your email would look like this:

Or simple you could just send an email to your family and friends telling them about whatever site you are promoting and place your referral link in the email.

Manual Traffic Exchange

A manual traffic exchange is a website that people join to promote to each other different sites that you can join to earn money. A great site join because you can target Australians Trafficg. Top Surfer is also very popular. Another site which works a little different is List Joe. The way List Joe works is you read other peoples emails for points and for every point you earn you can send out an email. You can send up to 2500 emails per week. All of these sites are free to join. I usually surf for about an hour a week and always make sure I don't promote a sight that I have seen while surfing.

Blogging

Now like most people you propably think that you are a crap writer. Guess what so am I, but you don't have to be a great writer to earn money from blogging. If you are really worried about writing a blog don't use your real name.
 
Before we begin I would like to share with you some little tips about blogging that most people don't want you to know.
 
Firstly Google likes some sites more that others. I will tell you which ones are best later in this email. Don't just join the first blog site you find.
 
Second, Create a title for you blog that has less than ten thousand results in google.
 
To give an example and I know this is lame, the other day one of my children was
asking me about a childrens group called the Doodlebops. She wants to see them live like she has the Wiggles. So I did a google search on the Doodlebops and saw that there was 479000 results for them. I then decided to narrow down the search and typed in "Doodlebops coming to Australia", 6470 hits was all that was there.
 
Fantastic I thought, my child can't be the only one in Australia wanting to see the Doodlebops so I did a blog on Doodlebops coming to Australia.
 
I did the blog through Wordpress and the last time I looked it was ranked number 3. Now I didn't do the blog to make money out of it although I have a link to an auction site that can earn me referral money but I did to show you how easy it is to get whatever you are trying to sell high up the google rankings.
 
To give you a few more examples, lets say you have a book you want to sell teaching people about surfing. You could use the title "how to ride a surfboard" or "how to surf waves". There are less that one thousand results in google on "how to ride a surfboard" and about 3300 for "how to surf waves".
 
One of the best places to start searching for phrases is Wordtracker Keywords and
use their no cost keyword suggestion tool. Once you start earning money I would
suggest you try Adword Analyzer because it is the best software for the goolge database.
 
Make sure you use your keywords in the title and also in the body of your article.

The best blog sites I have found to date are Squidoo , Wordpress, Goarticles, and Ezinearticles. These sites are great because the likes of Google and Yahoo have taken a liking to them.
 
Once you have joined and written your blog don't expect it to show up on google or yahoo straight away it could take anywhere between 2 days to 3 weeks.
 
This will take time to get started but once you have done your first couple of blogs it will get much easier. Some people I know can write up to 20 blogs per day selling a different items through Commission Junction or Clickbank.
